Worried about data loss? Unfortunately, you have to be: it has been estimated that around half of all businesses that have a major data loss subsequently cease trading within 12 months. To mitigate the risk it is necessary to take a pro-active stance, ensuring that backups are not an afterthought but are a priority. This is where OfficeNetExpress can help you. We can advise on a range of solutions, including innovative ones that go beyond the obvious

Automated Offsite Backups

Most organisations appreciate the need for offsite backups. After all, there’s not much point in keeping your backup discs next to the server and losing them too when the office goes up in flames...

OfficeNetExpress offer a specialised backup service of particular benefit to organisations that have more than one site. Using Microsoft’s DPM (Data protection Manager) software, a second server is setup at an offsite location. DPM then backs up the main server to it at regular intervals. This could be on overnight basis, but it is possible to do it as frequently as every 15 minutes. Note that once an initial full backup has been achieved, DPM is smart enough to just backup the subsequent changes to files, ensuring that there is no big performance hit or drain on the internet connection.

Automatic Backup of Laptops

The data on your file server might be backed up, but what happens to your laptops? Executives and salespeople (amongst others) typically store valuable business data on their laptops that never goes anywhere near a file server. If the data is corrupted, or the laptop crashes or infected with malware or stolen, the data goes. At best, there might be some important documents they copied to a memory stick – a year ago and they can’t find it.

OfficeNetExpress offers what can be thought of a specialised mini-server for laptop backups. When the laptop is brought into the office and connected to the network, it is automatically backed up in its entirety without user intervention. Not just the “My Documents” folder – absolutely everything. In fact, even if the laptop subsequently suffered a catastrophic failure (e.g. the hard disc was completed wiped) it will be possible to recreate it exactly the way it was the last time it was in the office, and relatively quickly too.

This “total backup” facility can be installed on up to 10 computers in the office. Although of particular benefit to laptop users, important desktop computers can also be backed up, enabling rapid restore in the event of serious problems.
